My professional training has prepared me for clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health issues. But often, my practice focuses not so much on pathology as it does on problem solving and finding creative solutions to everyday situations.
I believe in counseling. Most people at some point in their lives feel the need to talk through a problem or an idea with a professional listener. Listening and asking questions to help in thinking through the pieces of a crisis, a dream, or a loss describes my clinical approach.
I believe solution-focused short term therapy works. It does not have to take a long time to gain insights helpful in making a Life Improvement Plan and moving forward. Longer term supportive therapy is also available.
I am a licensed clinical social worker in Kansas (LSCSW) and Missouri. (LCSW) My degrees include a Master’s degree in education and an MSW from the University of Kansas. I also completed a year of post-grad fellowship at Yale’s School of Psychiatry in psychiatric social work.
My experience includes settings in the the VA and hospital social work, community mental health, drug and alcohol out-patient services, children’s psychiatric services, community college counseling, as well as private practice.
